E-Page for DOS Quick-Start Manual This manual is designed to get you up and running with E-Page so that you can decide if this program will meet your needs. If you find this program useful, and purchase a copy of it for yourself, you will receive the "key code" necessary to unlock the rest of the features of the program. You will also receive a printed manual that explains each portion of the program so that you can make the most of this program. After you have installed the program on your hard-drive, the program does a minimum customization for you by asking which COM port your modem is attached to, and which parallel port to use for printing. It also automatically creates a directory called "EPAGE" in which to install the program. To start E-Page, change to the hard-drive you selected during the installation process, and then enter the following commands: CD \EPAGE EPAGE This will start the E-Page program. If you have already purchased this copy, please see the included key code information sheet on how to enter your key code to unlock the full features of this program. At the top of the screen are the pull-down menus that give you access to all the program functions. You will notice that the first letter is either highlighted (for black and white monitors) or is shown in red (for color monitors). To access a particular menu, press down and hold the key, and then press the highlighted letter key. For example, to access the Directory menu, you would press down and hold the key, and then press the "D" key. Another way to access these menus is to press the key, and then use the cursor keys to move from menu to menu, and access each menu option. A quick note: While working with the dialog boxes, press the key to move from field to field. After you have cycled through the entry fields, continuing to press the key will cycle through all the button options. The first step is to ensure the correct program settings. First, press to activate the System menu, then press on "Change Program Defaults". The two items on this list that should be double checked are the com port setting, and the "Location of Message Files" setting. The com port should be either "COM1" or "COM2", and the "Location of Message Files" setting should be the drive on which you installed the software and "\EPAGE". For example, if you installed the software to your C: drive, the entry should read "C:\EPAGE". When both of these are correct, press . The next step is to enter the phone number to dial to send your messages. You'll need to contact the pager company and find out what phone number to dial to reach their modem. Once you have this information, select the System menu, and select then "Paging Company Data" option. Enter the phone number to dial in "Paging Company Modem Line". This field will accept up to 11 numbers. If you're calling a long distance number, don't forget to enter the "1" and area code if necessary. Next to the number field is the speed you want the modems to communicate. As distributed, each speed is set to 300, but some systems may require you to change this. The allowable settings are 300, 1200, and 2400. Experiment with different settings to determine the optimum speed. The next setting is the password. At the current time, the TAP Protocol indicates this is used only for identification purposes. Double check with your pager company to verify they don't require a specific password. If not, you should enter an abbreviation of your company name, or your name. If you would like to have a company ID appended to each message you send, enter the text you would like appended in the Company ID field. If you leave this field blank, your messages will be sent as typed. Then press . The next step is to enter a person into the directory. Press to bring up the new staff member dialog box.
